Business Continuity Planning (BCP)

Service OfferingsBusiness Continuity Planning (BCP) is an interdisciplinary concept used to create and validate a practiced logistical plan for how an organization will recover and restore partially or completely interrupted critical (urgent) function(s) within a predetermined time after a disaster or extended disruption. The logistical plan is called a Business Continuity Plan.
In plain language, BCP is working out how to stay in business in the event of disaster. Incidents include local incidents like building fires, regional incidents like earthquakes, power outages,  or national incidents like pandemic illnesses or acts of terrorism. BCP may be a part of an organizational learning effort that helps reduce operational risk associated with lax information management controls. This process may be integrated with improving information security and corporate reputation risk management practices.

Mission Critical Facilities:

Slipstream offers strategic data center consulting and project management on the design construction and ongoing maintenance of mission critical computing facilities consisting of the following discipline:

Information Technology Data Storage:

Data storage, often called storage or memory, refers to computer components, devices, and recording media that retain digital data used for computing for some interval of time. Computer data storage provides one of the core functions of the modern computer, that of information retention. It is one of the fundamental components of all modern computers, and coupled with a central processing unit (CPU, a processor), implements the basic computer model used since the 1940s.

Data Center Carrier Hotel Facilities:

Data Center Carrier Hotels serve as major hubs for voice and data traffic in a given region by providing a facility with the necessary infrastructure for carriers, service providers, and enterprise customers to do business together reliably and cost effectively.  By definition they must offer a wide array of colocation options including data center cabinets, cage space, private data suites, and raw space for larger build outs of contiguous private data center square footage all of which connect to a carrier neutral “Meet Me Room” as described as a facility where all of the various telecom services providers provide demarc’s and access to their national and global IP networks.  This is commonly referred to as an “on ramp” to the information superhighway.

Data Center Colocation and Managed Services:

Many organizations come to the logical conclusion that it is cost effective to outsource some or even all of their mission critical data center infrastructure and services.  After making this choice they then must select a vendor who provides high performance web hosting, collocation, Internet connectivity, data center managed services and web video streaming services.  These outsourced providers complete end-to-end Internet data center product offerings enable any size entity to cost effectively have their mission critical web servers and web streaming offerings always online and always working, 24 hours a day, seven days a week ("7x24").  Many of these infrastructure and service providers offer one-stop complete solutions which allows its clients to grow their computing infrastructure as well as Internet presence quickly and cost effectively.  Additionally this provides clients with ad hoc, preventative and emergency site maintenance and services which allow end users to focus their attention and resources on growing their business rather than on the equipment and technologies associated with data centers and web streaming.

Telecommunications:

The wireless and fiber optics based telecommunications industry experienced a sea change since the early to mid 1990’s.  Internet Protocol (IP) has allowed telecommunications providers to move from separate voice and data networks to a converged IP-based network with astonishing amounts of capacity or bandwidth to meet the needs of a real-time information based society.  With that in mind, IT organizations are constantly attempting to keep up with users demands and provide adequate levels of service, capacity and security to ensure optimal levels of worker productivity.  Many companies seek outside professional council to reach and maintain such a balance when it comes to company telecommunications requirements.  This scenario is all the more imperative for organizations that have operations in geographically dispersed regions.

Information Technology Security:

Information Technology security means protecting information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction.  The terms information security, computer security and information assurance are frequently incorrectly used interchangeably. These fields are interrelated often and share the common goals of protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information; however, there are some subtle differences between them. These differences lie primarily in the approach to the subject, the methodologies used, and the areas of concentration. Information security is concerned with the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data regardless of the form the data may take: electronic, print, or other forms. Computer security can focus on ensuring the availability and correct operation of a computer system without concern for the information stored or processed by the computer.
Governments, military, public corporations and financial institutions, hospitals, and private businesses amass a great deal of confidential information about their employees, customers, products, research, and financial status. Most of this information is now collected, processed and stored on electronic computers and transmitted across networks to other computers. Should confidential information about a businesses customers or finances or new product line fall into the hands of a competitor, such a breach of security could lead to lost business, law suits or even bankruptcy of the business. Protecting confidential information is a business requirement, and in many cases also an ethical and legal requirement.
